Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility of Nandankanan was inaugurated on 27th May, 2022 by Sri Naveen Patnaik, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Odisha. Sri Bikram Keshari Arukha, Hon’ble Minister of Forest, Environment & Climate Change and Parliamentary Affairs, Odisha, Sri Susant Kumar Rout, Hon’ble, MLA, Bhubaneswar (North), Dr Mona Sharma, IAS, ACS, Forest, Environmemt & Climate Change, Sri Sisir Kumar Ratho, IFS, PCCF & HOFF (Odisha), Senior officials from Forest, Works and other Departments, Local PRI members and citizens, Nandankanan staff, print and electronic media were present during the ceremony.
Sri Bikram Keshari Arukha emphasized that the Multi Level Car Parking facility is the first of its kind in Odisha and thanked the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Odisha for his vision of developing Nandankanan and providing financial support for successful implementation of the project. This facility is one of the transformational changes to be made in Nandankanan keeping in view the futuristic vision of making Nandankanan to a world class zoo. He informed the gathering about the upcoming infrastructure and facilities such as zoo frontage beautification, new approach road to Botanical Garden, development of new animal enclosure, renovation of kanjia and kiakani lake, Aerial ropeway, new tunnel and exchange of animals in this regard. Sri Susant Kumar Rout apprieciated various initiatives taken by Nandankanan in the recent years and emphasized the fact that addition of new features and animals should be done to make Nandankanan more beautiful and educative.
Dr Mona Sharma during course of her speech assured all support from the Govt to transform the Nandankanan Zoo. Sri Sisir Kumar Ratho appreciated the efforts of the staff to bring the Nandankanan to next level and hoped that their untiring efforts would ensure maximum visitor satisfaction. The Multi-Level Car Parking building has a three storied parking facility over total 5.0 acre area with a built-up area of 16800 sq. mt (G+ 2F) and a capacity to accommodate parking for 583 (151+151+151+130) cars. The estimated cost of the facility is Rs. 3542.79 Lakhs. The project work has been executed by R&B Division-III, Bhubaneswar from the budget provision made under “Development and Beautification of Nandankanan Zoological Park”. Fire safety measures including sprinkling system has been provided throughout the parking area. A pond near the MLCP has been renovated and is being developed as a water lily pool to have different varieties and colours of lily round the year. Driver rest rooms, drinking water and snack kiosks, CCTV monitoring, elevator, ramps and landing facilities for visitors along with wash room for both gents and ladies for visitors have been provided. The open areas adjacent to MLCP have been developed with paver tiles and landscaped for safe accommodation of 2000 nos of motor cycle and cycles. Boom bar for car entry with digital ticketing system have been provided. The facility not only provides safe parking of 583 cars at a time but also addresses the issues for traffic jam and rush at main PWD Road from Nandankanan Police Station to Barang By-Pass Road.
