World Elephant Day was observed at Nandankanan Zoological Park with a range of activities aimed at raising awareness about India's national heritage animal and enhancing conservation efforts. The celebration featured several events, including feeding sessions for the zoo's elephants, quizzes, and ceremonies to honour local school students as well as the zoo keepers dedicated to caring for the elephants.Sri Debidutta Biswal, PCCF HoFF graced the occasion with other dignitaries.
In the first half, PCCF HoFF with other dignitaries fed the elephants of Nandankanan; Basanti and Heera along with three rescued elephant calves Abhi, Asha and Lisa. The elephant care takers were felicitated for their dedicated work. This was followed by a Prize giving ceremony to the winners of Quiz competition held in 3 schools near Nandankanan on the occasion of World Elephant Day. The event ended with a Signature Campaign and taking pictures near Elephant themed selfie stand.
In the second half Range Officer (SBG), Education Officer, Assistant Education Officer, Assistant Biologist along with Zoo Volunteers celebrated the occasion in Govt. High School Darutheng. The students were shown videos on Elephant conservation and its importance. Various interactive games and puzzles, quiz, drawing and slogan competition was organised where students actively participated and won prizes as encouragement. The Zoo Volunteers executed various activities with students and management.
