International Tiger Day, 2022 was celebrated at Nandankanan Zoological Park on 29th July, 2022 in presence of Sri Debidutta Biswal. (IFS), Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, Odisha, Sri Shashi Paul, (IFS), Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (WL) & Chief Wildlife Warden, Sri Suvendu Kumar Swain, Chief Post Master General, Odisha Circle, Bhubaneswar, Dr Manoj V. Nair, (IFS), Director, Nandankanan Biological Park & Dr Sanjeet Kumar, (IFS), Deputy Director, Nandankanan Zoological Park. On this occasion online quiz and painting competition on tiger were conducted on Nandankanan website i.e. www.nandankanan.org .
After the evaluation prizes will be sent to the winners All the participants will be given e-certificate for their participation. In Nandankanan tigers were given a special treat of chicken meat as feeding enrichment in the morning in addition to their regular afternoon feed. On the spot quiz for visitors were conducted in front of Kanan enclosure where prizes were distributed to 20 visitors which is highly appreciated by the participants. The distinguished guests and visitors put their message on tiger conservation in the signature campaign board. On this day new initiative, the newsletter of Nandankanan Biological Park, Vol-I (Issue-I) named as” NANDANAM” was released highlighting the activities of Nandankanan Zoo and State Botanical Garden during the quarter (April, 2022- June, 2022). To give recognition to conservation efforts of Nandankanan special cover and printed post card on Tigers of Nandankanan (Normal coloured, white & melanistic tigers) were released by the distinguished guests. The Special cover and post card can be procured at nominal rate from Post Master General, Bhubaneswar and Nandankanan Zoological Park, Barang for the Philatelist to add their collection. All 15 nos of tiger keepers were felicitated in this special occasion for their hard and dedicated work.
In afternoon, special olfactory enrichments were given to tigers and, keepers talk programme was also conducted with special focus to Nandankanan tigers to aware visitor about how keeper take care of tiger in daily routine. The tiger awareness messages, pictures, videos etc. were shared to print and electronic media and social media platform for wider circulation. At present Nandankanan has 26 tigers including (10M:6F) normal coloured tigers, (2M:5F) white tigers and (3M) melanistic tigers.
