Acacia nilotica (Linn.) Delile ssp. indica (Bentk.) Brenan. [Syn: Acacia arabica auct. non (Lam.) Willd.]

Vernacular Name: Babul (O, Beng.,H); Kikar (H); Black Babul Tree (E).

Tree; bark deep-brown or black, deeply cracked. Branches with long, straight, white, stipular spines. Leaf-rachis with a cup-shaped gland at the base of the pinnae. Leaflets 10-20 pairs, linear, sub- obtuse, glabrous or nearly so. Flower- heads yellow. Pods grey-downy, moniliform, indehiscent.
 
Planted in the garden and roadsides.
