Butea monosperma (Lam.) Taub. (Syn: Butea frondosa Koenig. ex Roxb.)
Vernacular Name: Palasa (O); Paras, Palas (B); Dhak (H).
Small or medium-sised, deciduous tree; truck crooked. Leaves 3-foliolate, rarely 1-foliolate; stipules linear-lanceolate; leaflets rigidly coriaceous, grey- tomentose or pubescent beneath. Flowers bright orange-red. Pods stalked, valvety brown. Seeds oval, compressed, brown.
Fairly common in forests, especially in eroded sites.
Flowering : February - April
Fruiting : May - July. Leafless during flowering.
